Remarks
Historic Lakefront: "The Owl's Nest is a charming stone cottage and our family's summer home which we rent on occasion. It was built around 1884 by my great great grandfather, Edward Eggleston on land owned by my great grandfather, Elwyn Seelye. Eggleston was an author and historian who wrote such books as The Hoosier Schoolmaster; The Hoosier Schoolboy; The Household History of the US and it's People; Circuilt Rider; Faith Doctor; Pocahontas and Roxy. The adjoining structure called Mellowstone washis library. In 1900 Eggleston was the president of the American History Association. He lived in The Owl's Nest the last twenty years of his life. The house, passed down through the generations, is now ownerd by my mother, Elizabeth Seelye Williams. The Joshua's Rock Corporation, a family entity, owns most of the surrounding seventy-five acres. The handful of other houses on the property are owned by various cousins and family members. We ask that you respect their privacy and understand that this land is a quiet retreat for them. We hope that you will enjoy the tranquility of the Owl's Nest as much as our family has enjoyed it over the years. (The Williams Family). The house is set up from the lake with views from the front porch of the extensive lawns of the Joshua Rock Corporation. The shoreline of the lake is visible directly in front of the house due to the tall pines at the shoreline whose greens restrict lake view. While a 19th century house the kitchen was updated in the recent past with dishwasher supplied and bathrooms are more recent. Masterbedroom on the first floor has a door to the screen porch as well as a master bath. The living room also accesses the porch. The second floor contains the other two bedrooms and a bath. Swim in historic Dunham's Bay where fleets were destroyed during the French and Indian Wars and current residents recall being able to see the remains of bateaux deep in the water some forty years ago
